Silicone Breast Implants
Silicone Breast Implants
If you’re looking for the natural look and feel of your breasts even after the breast augmentation procedure, perhaps it would be best for you to choose silicone breast implants. Silicone breast implants have the same consistency and texture like that of the real breasts and for this matter alone, it receives the most compliments from women who have undergone breast augmentation.
Depending on the size, shape, incision type, and the placement of the silicone breast implants you choose, a “natural” breast symmetry can be achieved without anyone suspecting that you have something done, except maybe for the increased bust size which can be noticed by your closest friends. But other than that, people who seldom see you won’t suspect anything.
History of Silicone Breast Implants
As early as 1890s, breast augmentation procedure has been performed on women who wanted to improve their cup size but during these times, they tried a number of materials that would soon prove to have unfavorable health risks and complications. It wasn’t until the 1960s when the first use of silicone was tried. It was the end of World War II and during this era, Japanese prostitutes who wanted to gain the favor of American soldiers have opted to inject their breasts with silicone.
This is the earliest form when silicone injectable was used in breast augmentation but due to the health problems caused by this method, it was soon banned in the United States. In 1961, the first silicone breast implant was developed and during this time, they used a silicone shell that is filled with the silicone liquid. In 1962, silicone breast implants were available for public use and it has become the most popular breast augmentation choice for most women.
However, due to the instability of the silicone shell used in the early form of modern silicone breast implants, they were prone to rupture and leakage which again led to unfavorable health problems. In 1982, silicone breast implants were banned to avoid the increase of women experiencing health risks due to rupture and leakage.
After 14 years of silicone breast implants banning, the USA FDA has approved in November 2006 the use of silicone breast implants which were now redeveloped to have stronger silicone enveloping shells. This has also marked the development of a new form of silicone breast implants called cohesive silicone breast implants which has a gummy bear style silicone filling.
The cohesive silicone breast implants are still under clinical trial basis and hasn’t been approved for public usage. But once they have been released, they will change the breast augmentation world once more because the gummy bear texture of the silicone filling prevents it from leaking in case of rupture thus eliminating the possible occurrence of health problems.
Are silicone breast implants right for you?
To answer this question, one must learn the differences between saline and silicone breast implants. If you are after the natural look and feel of your breast after the procedure, then silicone breast implants may be the right choice for you. But if you’re more afraid of the possible health risks and complications that might occur if rupture and leakage is to happen, then silicone breast implants may not be so perfect after all.
Always remember that the decision will entirely depend on what you have chosen. By increasing your knowledge between the two implants will give you a better option, a better outlook about breast augmentation. Don’t let anyone pressure you into choosing the implant that you don’t feel comfortable in. If you’re willing to get the natural look and feel of your breasts without worrying about the risks then it would be best to wait for the cohesive silicone breast implants’ release on the market. This is the next best choice for silicone breast implants.
